Structure SDK third-party sensor support

At Occipital we've been eagerly anticipating the advent of powerful sensing on mobile devices for over a decade. For the past few months, we’ve been hard at work making sure our Structure SDK is flexible enough to support new sensing hardware. With last week’s reveal of the all-new Apple iPad Pro® with Apple LiDAR onboard we’re proud to announce that we are adding support for third-party sensors to Structure SDK.

From the launch of the original Structure Sensor five years ago, we’ve worked to partner with our developer community to bring practical 3D scanning technology to tens of thousands of users by delivering our accessible, easy to use Structure SDK. We’ve enabled developers to craft powerful 3D scanning, room mapping and spatial tracking apps without having to master complicated computer vision algorithms on their own.

Occipital has grown from our crowdfunding roots launching a groundbreaking 3D scanning platform with over 3,500 supporters on Kickstarter to become a developer-and-vertical focused hardware and software provider powering everything from mission-critical tools in thousands of doctor’s offices globally to developer-focused robotics platforms. Through our journey, we’ve been preparing to bring our spatial computing platform to millions of devices.

To get there, we’re expanding SDK support to new sensors to deliver our best-in-class 3D scanning platform to our growing developer community. In the near future, our iOS SDK will support applications using standalone iPad hardware with Apple LiDAR, Structure Sensor (Mark II), and even leverage both for better performance. Over time, we’ll be adding support for additional hardware sensors so more users can take advantage of Structure SDK across even more supported operating systems. We’ll have more details about Apple LiDAR support and a new Structure SDK licensing model in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for more!
